August 22, 2007 - Letters From Soldiers

We've received many letters from the soldiers. Here are a few for you to read: (Please note that any names have been withheld to protect the privacy of the soldiers.)

Karen and Associates:
We are blessed to have such support from your organization.
Our Team is on the downward swing with only 90 days left, then back to family and friends for six months. Then back here. We understand and respect the job at hand. It is easier on us and our family members to have others giving such support as you give. Once again thank you and God Bless All of You.

Good afternoon,
My name is Sergeant ***. I am a Human Resources Nco for Delta Company 1/3 The Old Guard. I wanted to take a few minutes and tell you how thankful we are as a unit to receive letters of kindness and the incredible support from proud patriots such as yourselves. I am 24 years old and married for 4 years. I have a beautiful little girl who will soon be three. You spoke about being away from family and how it must be hard in your letter sent to us. Well let me just say that it is! I have been deployed for 5 months now. I have not seen my wife or daughter in 6. I will not be home for 10 more moths with the 15 month extensions now. I missed my 4 year anniversary and will miss my 5 year anniversary. I missed my wife's 22 birthday and will miss her 23rd. I will have 2 easters, 2 4th July, 2 memorial days, 2 labor days, my daughter's 3rd christmas and her 3rd birthday. All these things that I as loving and caring father want to experience and be apart of I cannot. Because of the role I serve in this Global War on Terrorism. However with all those things in mind I want you all to know this, I love my family more than anything else in this world and I would gladly give my life for them. I also love my country, the greatest country in the world, I love America and what she stands for and I would gladly give my life for her as well. So I can say with a clear conscious and a clear heart that I am proud to have been able to serve my country and there are no regrets for missing all those special occasions. I am thankful for Proud Americans like you and I just want to say one final remark. Thank you with as much sincerity as I know how to say it with. God Bless all of you and God Bless our great Nation!

Hello,
I would personally like to thank you and your organization for the kind support that you all have shown us since we deployed to the Horn of Africa. We receive your packages from a weekly to bi-weekly basis and are glad to see that you are supporting us in this fashion. We appreciate everything that you do for us and wanted to let you know that your actions are not unseen or unheard. Again thank you for your kind support.
"Elementis Regamus Proelium"

Hi Karen,
I hope this note finds you doing well in the Rockies. I just wanted to thank you for the letter you had sent on August 4th as well as for all you folks at adopt a platoon do. Seeing that you took the time to tell us about yourself I will do the same.
My name is *** and I was born and raised just outside of Boston in a town called Milford MA. Needless to say I am a diehard RedSox and Patriots fan. I have an older brother, older sister and younger sister. My brother just had his first child and my first god son. I can not wait to meet him and will do so next week as I am going on R&R leave tomorrow!! I missed the day he was born as well as his christening. Thankfully my girlfriend covered the events with more pictures then anyone could have asked for...she got new camera and had to use it.
I got my BS in Finance from Bentley College in 03 while working at a financial planning firm. I knew two people that died in the towers and always had a regret for not joining. I finally transitioned my clients out to another advisor in that had been in my office for the 5 years I was there. In April of 2005 I left for basic, infantry and airborne school. I guess you could say I am not your average infantryman. I am deployed in the Horn of Africa, as you may well know. Our job here is not a typical one and is a bit of a pain in the neck but at least it is interesting at times.
Just wanted to say thanks and let you know a little about myself.
Best wishes,
D 1/3 Infantry
