MBB Game #19: So close, but a familiar outcome at Eastern Washington

All but one meeting between Northern Colorado and Eastern Washington has taken place since UNC joined the Big Sky Conference. Five times the teams have played overtime in Cheney, with the latest coming Monday night.

All but one of them has gone Eastern Washington’s way. Monday saw the same result. EWU claimed an 89-84 decision to move into second place in the Big Sky standings alone.

The Eagles got new life when UNC’s last second shot from Trent Harris was waved off as a Jonah Radebaugh air ball resulted in a shot clock violation before Harris’ heroics. From there, they would gain the advantage as Northern Colorado’s offense went through another drought.

The fact the Bears even were able to get it back even was a credit to the team’s resiliency. After a strong first half shooting, UNC would only manage 30-percent from the field after halftime, yet cashed in enough free throws and treys to nearly pull off the win.

Northern Colorado is faced with having to turn things around quickly. The Bears host Idaho State Thursday, marking the third game of a stretch that sees UNC playing four games in eight days overall.
