MBB Game #28: Deadly efficiency leads to blowout win

So. Efficient.

Northern Colorado shot 54% Thursday night, part of a stretch that has seen the Bears shot 58% while winning five straight. That shooting coupled with staunch defense led to a 44 point destruction of Idaho.

Honestly, when you have a 19-15 game at the 11:00 mark of the 1st half, who would expect what UNC did?

The Bears limited Idaho to 3 field goals the remainder of the first half to go up by 24 at halftime and cruise against one of the two teams in the cellar of the Big Sky. With the win, the UNC faces a showdown with Eastern Washington Saturday, then a battle with Montana next Thursday with the Big Sky title in the balance.

What this team has accomplished this year is being called the best ever at Northern Colorado by analytics folks, and it’s hard to argue.

Unfortunately, the winning and high caliber of action hasn’t caught the imagination of the Greeley community the way it should have. With a conference championship on the line, Bank of Colorado Arena was again only half full Thursday, which is disappointing given the history this team is making.

Senior Night on Saturday is the last chance to see this team, including MVP candidate Jonah Radebaugh. It’s a great time to show that there is interest in college basketball in Northern Colorado, especially when a team has been consistent with 3 20 win seasons consecutively.
