UNC and new head coach Steve Smiley have picked up a commitment from an east coast private school, Jamel Melvin. The 6’9″, 205lb power forward averaged 14 points per game this past season, scoring double figures in 22 of the 25 games Potomac School (VA) played.

Melvin went for 17 / 11 / 5bk in summer league action in 2019, including a triple-double in an June game (24 / 10/ 11bk! )
He had offers from James Madison University, Towson, Southern Utah, Loyola Maryland, Howard, and Mississippi Valley State before committing to Northern Colorado.
Melvin adds a boost to a roster that loses Big Sky 6th Man of the Year Kai Edwards to graduation and was in need of another power forward along with Kur Jockuch.
