UNC recap: AUSTIN – Basketball can be a simple game about makes and misses and that’s exactly what it was on Tuesday night. The Northern Colorado men’s basketball team opened the 2019-20 season at Texas falling to the Longhorns 69-45.
The Bears shot 27.3 percent from the field and made just two 3-pointers. Besides shots falling or not, UNC played even with Texas throughout all aspects of the game.
Troy’s Take: The Bears suffered through a dreadful shooting night. From the moment Texas started finding a groove, the Longhorns didn’t let UNC find open looks. After an early, small deficit at 6-1, UNC got it to 6-5 but that would be the closest is was the rest of the night.
UT has to feel good that Andrew Jones returned to game action after treatments for leukemia the past two seasons and gave them a weapon they couldn’t be sure they were going to have. The former McDonald’s All-American ended up playing 29 minutes and scored 18 of his 20 points in the second to take some of the pressure off Courtney Ramey and Matt Coleman.
Meanwhile, the Bears have a quick turnaround, with Incarnate Word visiting Friday night. It should be a much different ballgame, however. The Bears blasted UIW in San Antonio last season before suffering a loss at Texas Tech three days later.
