UNC MBB Game #2: Bears ride ebbs & flows to win

UNC Recap: It was good to be home for Northern Colorado men’s basketball as they defeated Incarnate Word in their home-opener 83-61. The Bears had four players score in double figures and shot 50.9 percent as a team.

Bodie Hume led the team with a career-high 25 points. Twenty-three of his 25 points came in the first half for Hume. He was 7-for-11 shooting and made all six of his free throw attempts in the first half. The three other Bears in double figures were Trent Harris (20), Matt Johnson (16) and Kai Edwards (11).

Troy’s View: After struggling offensively at Texas, the Bears were able to overcome a slow-ish start to eventually ride the highs of making shots. UNC finished with 14 treys on the night, but it took a bit for them to get going, using a 10-0 run to open a lead. After UIW closed the gap to five early in the second half, another burst took place with Johnson and Harris both hitting key threes over the stretch.

The biggest item to stand out: with Sam Masten sidelined with a concussion, Jonah Radebaugh played the point effectively. The two-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year wound up with a career high seven assists as UNC put up 20 total on the night.

It was expected to be a game where “taking care of themselves” would be the storyline and that’s exactly how it played out as the Bears moved to 1-1.
