Colorado sees 1st case of subvariant dubbed ‘stealth Omicron’

Colorado has its first confirmed case of the Omicron subvariant. The state Department of Public Health and Environment says the BA.2 case was identified in Denver in late December through genetic sequencing of samples at the state lab. The “stealth Omicron” variant may be more transmissible than the original strain, but right now, there’s no evidence it’s causing more severe illness or evades vaccine immunity. According to reports, nearly 100 cases of the variant have appeared in 20 states so far.
