While Greeley is known for constructing the city’s first water system by using a series of infiltration wells, Fort Collins actually took things further with water access by creating its first public water works system in 1883. The water works facility is located at 2005 N. Overland Trail. According to an interview conducted by the Greeley Tribune, “In 1882 the city was less than 1,400 people and on Sept. 20, 1882 that small community voted an $85,000 bond to build this water works,” explained the chairman of the Friends of the Water Works.”
